In this 1983 video funded by The Polio Foundation of Alberta, polio survivor Gary McPherson demonstrates glossopharyngeal (frog) breathing. Clarence Dail, MD, at the Los Angeles-based Rancho Los Amigos respiratory center, described his observations in a 1951 article in California Medicine. Patients with very low vital capacity “discovered this method of breathing without help or even suggestion that it was possible. Others learned from them.”
